The Pokémon Company has announced that generation 2 Pokémon are now available in Pokémon Go.

As of February 17, over 80 new creatures were added to the game’s Pokédex. In addition, new berries and customization options became available for players.

Players first started getting the hint that generation 2 Pokémon were coming during the Starbucks event last December. A supposed leaked employee handbook hinted at the fact the much loved Gold, Silver, and Crystal characters were coming soon.

The generation 2 Pokémon had a soft release, with baby Pokémon, like Togepi and Pichu, available in early January.

In addition, generation 2 Pokémon like Cleffa, Smoochum and Igglybuff, part of the aforementioned group of baby Pokémon, had higher hatch rates during the Valentines Day event, which ended on February 15.

According to Forbes.com, the Pokemon Go servers struggled early on to handle the massive increase in players following the announcement of generation 2 monsters being included.

Sprint, one of Niantic’s partners and common location for many Pokéstops, announced that all stores will have constant lures attached to them from 2 to 8 p.m. on February 17, the day after the generation 2 update.

Along with adding new features to the game, the generation 2 update also affected some Pokémon’s base power stats and attacks.

The Silph Road on Reddit is documenting the changes noticed thus far to Pokémon Go gameplay as well.
