A new Marvel television series has been announced on Freeform Network — formerly ABC Family — and if you hadn’t guessed from the awful pun of a headline I wrote (really, people should just be used to them by now), it’s going to be called Cloak and Dagger.
The show will focus on Marvel’s Tyrone Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (Dagger), who are teenage runaways from very different backgrounds and are discovering their superpowers and their love for each other at the same time. Wacky hijinks are no doubt going to ensue.
The two eventually find out that their power complement each other (Cloak can create darkness and Dagger creates daggers of pure light) and they realize that they are better off together than apart and form their own dynamic duo. While the two characters haven’t had a series of their own on Marvel’s shelves since 2010, they have appeared in many event and cross-overs including the latest reassembling of the Marvel Universe, Secret Wars, and they appeared in the latest iteration of Amazing Spider-Man written by Dan Slott and art by Giuseppe Camuncoli.
According to an exclusive story from Variety, no writer has been chosen for the Freeform series but the search is currently ongoing. Marvel and ABC Studios will be getting a co-producing credit because obviously.
This will be Freeform’s first Marvel title (how exciting! I’m sure it won’t be the last this behemoth is literally everywhere) even though its parent studio, ABC, has Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter and Marvel’s Most Wanted.
