Some of you might remember the Body Issue of the ESPN magazine that featured an insert on Marvel superheroes with little tid bits of information from the artists on how they draw their respective superheroes. It was a fun site to look at and pretty cool that sports and comics are crossing over in a fun way.
Now, espnW has teamed up with several Marvel artists to create super versions of the “IMPACT25” list for this year. This list includes 24 nominees and the espnW Woman of the Year winner, who have made a major impact on women in sports this year. To kick off the event, Marvel has already created an image of U.S. Women’s National Team star Carli Lloyd next to the incredible Captain Marvel. Lloyd helped her team win the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and she won the Golden Ball to honor her status as best player in the entire tournament.
“Marvel’s mission is to celebrate the hero’s journey—and espnW’s IMPACT25 is a uniquely incredible way to do that,” said Sana Amanat, Marvel Director of Content Development in a press release.
I’m sure the list of artists that will be taking on this kick ass project will be star-studded and they will truly be able to capture these incredible and powerful women for everything that they are. The full list of nominees and artists will be announced next week, on December 7.
This partnership is going beyond the page, as well, and the hosts of the Women of Marvel podcast will join the espnW Presents: Be Honest With Cari Champion podcast the day the list is announced. The Women of Marvel podcast will also host espnW editors Alison Overholt and Jennifer Holmes sometime this month. The espnW website will also feature an in-depth look at how the nominees are transformed into their super-selves.
